Egg production:
In chickens, egg production is the most important economic trait.
Various factors like, egg number, sexual maturity, egg weight, body weight, feed efficiency, egg size, egg shape, shell colour and quality, internal quality of egg, are considered to develop new varieties or to improve quality of chicken with respect to quantity and quality of eggs.

Broiler production:
​​​​​​​Broilers are produced in order to get meat from them. Chickens are raised for up to 6-7 weeks in the poultry farm. They grow to a weight of 700 gm to 1.5 kg in this period. They are fed with nutritious feed for good growth rate and better feed efficiency. Care is taken to decrease the mortality rate and also to produce good quality meat.
