Question

Name two organisms that reproduces through:
(i) Fission
(ii) Budding

Open in App
Solution

  1. Asexual reproduction occurs when a single parent produces offspring without the formation and fusion of gametes.
  2. Asexual reproduction includes fission and budding.

Fission:

  1. Binary fission and multiple fission are two methods for asexual reproduction by fission.
  2. In binary fission, like in Amoeba, cells divide into two cells.
  3. The parent nucleus divides repeatedly in multiple fission to produce a large number of daughter cells.
  4. It is frequently observed in malarial parasites (Plasmodium).

Budding:

  1. The new individual emerges from the parent during the budding process.
  2. Buds begin as tiny outgrowths from the surface of adult cells in unicellular organisms such as yeast.
  3. The parent body of Hydra develops a bulge-like protrusion as a result of multiple mitotic divisions.
