Total distance between the school and Nandini's house = Distance covered by walking + Distance covered by bus

$\Rightarrow$ Distance covered by walking = Total distance between the school and Nandini's house - Distance covered by bus

On substituting the values we get:

Distance covered by walking = $\frac{9}{10}-\frac{1}{2}=\frac{9\times 1-1\times 5}{10}$ [ $\because$ L.C.M. of 10 and 2 is 10 ]

= $\frac{9-5}{10}=\frac{4}{10}=\frac{2}{5}$ km

Therefore, she walked $\frac{2}{5}$ km.
