The NH3 molecule has a dipole moment because the three NH bond dipoles add to give a net dipole pointing upward to the NH3 structure. The SF6 molecule has no dipole moment because each SF bond dipole is balanced by one of equal magnitude pointing in opposite direction of the other side of the molecule.
