Question

Nikhil spent ₹13,200 to buy clothes for 20 children and 4 adults. The cost of a cloth for an adult is ₹300 more than that of a cloth for a child. Sunil bought the same number of clothes as Nikhil but the number of adult and children clothes were interchanged. Find the total cost he had paid for all the clothes.

The correct option is D ₹18,000
Let's assume cost of a child cloth is ₹x and the cost of an adult's cloth is ₹y. So according to the given condition;
20x+4y=13200 and y=300+x
Raplacing y in terms of x we get,
20x+4(300+x)=13200
On simplifying we get, x=500
Putting value of x in any of the two equations obtained above, we get
y=800
According to the given condition, the total amount spent by Sunil is given by
4x+20y
On substituting the values of x and y, we get,
4×500+20×800
On simplifying we get;
₹18,000 is the total amount paid by Sunil.
