Question

No/2 atoms of X(g) are converted into X+(g) by energy E1 . No/2 atoms of X(g) are converted into X-(g) by energy E2 . Hence the ionisation potential and electron affinity of X(g) per atom are:

A. 2E1/No. , 2(E2-E1)/No

B. 2E1/No. ,. 2E2/No

C. E1-E2/No. ,. 2E2/No

Solution

just cross multiplying we get the answer.
No/2 is the number of atoms for which ionisation energy is given as E1
X is the number of atoms for which ionisation energy is to be found. Ths same thing to be followed to electron affinity too.
