  1. The above diagram is of Euglena.
  2. Euglena is a unicellular free-living organism.

(b)

  1. It belongs to the kingdom Protista.
  2. Protista includes unicellular, eukaryotic and aquatic organisms.
  3. Some organisms use appendages such as hair-like cilia (e.g paramoecium) or whip-like flagella (e.g Euglena) for their locomotion.
  4. Euglena belongs to the class Mastigophora. These organisms' flagella act as locomotory organs.

(c) Labelled diagram:

  1. Part A-The flagellum is used for locomotion.
  2. Part B- Eyespot contains photoreceptors, that help in the detection of light and are involved in phototaxis.
  3. Part C- Contractile vacuole removes extra water.
  4. Part D- Chloroplast is used to synthesize paramylon (polymer of glucose).
  5. Part E- The nucleus contains genetic information.
