Given,

sum of roots $= 1$

product of roots $= - 3$

required equation is in the form of,

$p (x) = x^{2} - (s u m - o f - r o o t s) x + (p r o d u c t - o f - r o o t s)$

$∴ p (x) = x^{2} - (1) x + (- 3)$

$p (x) = x^{2} - x - 3$
