Ecological hotspots are areas rich in biodiversity and dense in endemic species facing the threat of habitat destruction and extinction. Endemic species are those species whose presence is restricted to a particular geographical area. There are 34 ecological hotspots in the world. Three of them are present in India - The Western Ghats, The North - Eastern Himalayas and The Indo - Burma region.
