1) Form a linear equation.
2)If she distributed 145 chocolates in total, how many children are there in the orphanage?

Solution

1) Sonia gave 5 chocolates to each child. So if we let number of children = x then she gave 5x chocolates
to children. She also gave 20 chocolates to adults. So total number of chocolates disttributed = 5x+20.
If we let y = total number of chocolates distributed, the we have the equation y = 5x+20
2) We have 145= 5x+20 so 5x = 145-20= 125 or x = 125/5 = 25
So there are 25 children in the orphanage
3)The values reflected in the situation are:
145= total number of chocolates distributed
5 = number of chocolates distributed per child
x= number of children in orphange
20 = number of chocolates distributed to adults
