Question

On what factors does resistance depends

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Resistance can be defined as the opposition to the flow of electron and electrical current through a conductor. mathematically can be written as;
R = ρLAwhere R is the rsistance ρ is the resistivity that depends on the material of the wireL is the length of the wireA is the area of cross section of the wire

The factors on which resistance of a conductor depends are ;
  • Length (Resistance is directly proportional to length. For longer wire, resistance is high and for shorter wire resistance is low.)
  • Thickness of the conductor (R is inversely proportional to Area, with thicker wire, resistance is less, and with thinner wire, resistance is large)
  • Nature of material
  • Temperature (with increasing temperature, resistance becomes high and with decreasing temperature, resistance becomes low)
