Question

One cubic meter of an ideal gas is at a pressure of 105 N/m2 and temperature 300 K. The gas is allowed to expand at constant pressure to twice its volume by supplying heat. If the change in internal energy in this process is 104J, then the heat supplied is

Solution

The correct option is C 11×104J
Solution:
PV=nTR
10×5×1=n(83.14)×300
n=105(83.14+300)
n=40
change in internal energy is given as 104 Joule
du=104=nCVdT
[pressure is constant so,vαTv1=v and v2=2v so, T1=300kT2=600k
Now, Heat supplied=dθ=nCpdT
=n(Cv+R)dT
=40(8.21+0.833)×(600300)
=40(9.043)×300
=110000j
=11×104j
Correct option is (C)
