Solution

The correct option is A 1.954 ppm
1 mole of CaCl21 mole of CaCO31 mole of MgCl2
100mg CaCO3 is produced by 95mg MgCl2
1mg of MgCl2 gives 10095mg CaCO3= 1.05mg CaCO3

Similarly, 1mg of CaCl2 gives 100111mg CaCO3= 0.90mg CaCO3

Total CaCO3 per litre of water= 1.05+0.90=1.95 mg
Weight of 1000ml of water= 103g=106mg

Total hardness in terms of parts of CaCO3 per 106 parts of water by weight = 1.95106×106
=1.95 ppm

Answer: (A) 1.954 ppm
