Solution
The correct option is A 1.954 ppm 1 mole of CaCl2≡1 mole of CaCO3≡1 mole of MgCl2
∴100mgCaCO3 is produced by 95mgMgCl2
∴1mg of MgCl2 gives 10095mgCaCO3=1.05mgCaCO3
Similarly, 1mg of CaCl2 gives 100111mgCaCO3=0.90mgCaCO3
∴ Total CaCO3 per litre of water= 1.05+0.90=1.95mg
Weight of 1000ml of water= 103g=106mg
∴ Total hardness in terms of parts of CaCO3 per 106 parts of water by weight = 1.95106×106
