Solution

Dear student,

Variation in a species can promote survival by producing change in their

  • behaviour (e.g. adaptability in different organisms according to their environment.)
  • appearance (e.g. colour change in beetles)
  • function (e.g.vestigial organs which have lost their function or some organs which have been gained in order to function in a better way )

Various factors can lead to the rise of new species. For e.g.

  • Genetic drift
  • Natural selection
  • Geographical isolation.
