Solution

Preparation of Hydrogen chloride occur in three steps which are as follows:
(1) Reaction of metal with Hydrogen chloride.
ā€‹
Fe (s) + 2HCl (aq) → FeCl2 (aq) + H2

(2) Oxidation of iron (II) chloride with chlorine.

2FeCl2 (aq) + Cl2(g) → 2FeCl3 (aq)

(3) Refluxing of hydrated iron (III) chloride with thionyl chloride to convert into anhydrous iron (III) chloride.
