Ovulation in female is controlled by leuteinising hormone. It is released from anterior pituitary. In females, LH stimulates the ovulation of the fully matured Graafian follicles and also maintains the corpus luteum, formed from the remnants of Graafian follicles after ovulation. The corpus luteum secretes progesterone and some estrogen under the action of LH. It helps in release of the ovum from the ovary.
