Solution

Dear student.

During photosynthesis splitting of water molecule results in evolution of oxygen. The solar energy absorbed by the chlorophyll splits water molecule. This process is also known as photolysis.

Photolysis of water involves the breaking of water molecule to form oxygen gas and hydrogen ions and the release of electrons. The released electrons and hydrogen ions are captured by other substrates in the vicinity. In this way, they pass from an electron transport system and finally, they are captured by NADP to form NADPH. NADPH is the reducing power which is used in the biosynthetic reactions of photosynthesis to produce carbohydrates.
