Open in App
Solution

Each level in a food chain is known as the trophic level. A food chain involves a transfer of matter and energy from organism to organism. As energy is transferred through the food chain or food web, some energy is converted to waste heat at each level (trophic level). The amount of energy lost is so large that the food chains rarely involve more than four or five trophic levels from consumer to top predator.
