Question

A compound A is strongly heated to get compound B and gas C .When compond B reacted with water ,compound D is obtained .When C is passed through D,white ppt of compound A is formed again. When more of C is passed through aqueous solution of compound A,it dissolves to form compound E .Identify the compond A ,it dissolves to form compound E.

Solution

Compound A is calcium carbonate. When it is heated following compounds are formed:
CaCO3 CaO + CO2(g) (A) (B) (C)

Calcium oxide (B) forms calcium hydroxide (D) when reacted with water.
CaO + H2O Ca(OH)2(C) (D)

When CO2 (C) is passed through calcium hydroxide (D), calcium carbonate is formed (A).
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 CaCO3 +H2O (D) (C) (A)

When more of CO2 (C) is passed through aqueous solution of CaCO3 (A), it dissolves to form calcium bicarbonate, Ca(HCO3)2 (E )
CO2 + Ca(OH)2 CaCO3 + H2OCaCO3 +H2O +CO2 Ca(HCO3)2 (E)
