A father is three times as old as his son.However,after 12 years he will be only two times the age of his son.Find their present ages.

Let the son's age be x years.

So, father's age will be 3x years.

According to the given condition,

(3x + 12) = 2(x+12)

⇒ 3x + 12 = 2x +24

⇒ x = 12

Hence, the present age of son = x years = 12 years and

the present age of father = 3x years = 3 × 12 = 36 years
