Question

A force is applied on a metal block lying on the floor in one direction still the block does not move. Name the force which is balancing it.

Here are the four forces, which acting on the metal block.
1-Weight of block (Downward direction)
2-Normal reaction (Upward direction)
3-Force or push in one direction.
4-Friction force in opposite direction
The weight of block is balanced by the normal reaction. And if the block is not able to move, then it means force is balanced by the friction force acting in its opposite direction.
