Question

a sampleof water boils at 102 degree celcius at normal temperature and pressure. is this sample of water pure? Will this sample freeze at 0 degree celcius? justify your answer

Solution

We know that the boiling point of pure water is 1000 C. Thus if a sample of water at normal temperature and pressure boils at 1020 C, then it is not pure. Also, since the given sample is not pure, therefore it will not freeze at 00 C (freezing point of pure water) but at a lower temperature.
