Question

An electric bulb of resistance 20ohm and a resistance wire of 4ohm are connected in series with a 6v battery. Calculate the total resistance of the circuit and the potential difference across electric bulb and resistance wire?

Solution

Total resistance of the circuit is R 20+4 = 24 ohm.Volatge in the circuit = 6 vcurrent in the circuit I = vR = 624 = 0.25 Awe know in series current remains same but voltage is different.voltage across the bulb = resistance of the bulb ×current = 20×0.25 = 5 voltvoltage across the wire = resistance of the wire× current = 4×0.25 = 1 volt
