An element 'X' forms an oxide with forula X2O3. State the Valency of 'X' and write the formula of its chloride.

Valency of the compound is 3 .

since, 2X = 6 , X=3 this is the oxidation state of the atom X which is equal to the valency of an atom.

Hence it belongs to the nitrogen family.

Thus formula for the chlorides are as under:-

PCl3,PCl5, AsCl3, BiCl3 ,SbCl3 etc.
