Question

An insect moves along a circular path of radius 10cm with a constant speed.If it takes 1 minute to move from a point on a path to the diametrically opposite point,find (a)the distance covered, (b) the speed, (c) the displacement and, (d) the average velocity.

Solution

Radius = 10 cm = 0.1 mdiameter = 2r = 0.2 mtime taken to reach the diametrically opposite end is 1 min = 60 seconddistance travelled = half of the circumfrence = 2πrr = 3.14×0.2 = 0.628 mdisplacement = diameter = 0.2 mspeed = distancetime = 0.62860= 0.01 m/saverage velocity = 0.260 = 0.0033 m/s
