Pleasant and fruity smell is given by esters and esters are formed when any carboxylic acid react with ethanol in acidic medium like H₂SO₄ and so, the two carbon carboxylic acid is acetic acid/ ethanoic acid CH₃COOH and the resaction is given as:
CH₃COOH + CH₃CH₂OH --- acid--> CH₃COOCH₂CH₃ (ester) + H₂O
