Solution

Both solids and gases occupy space. But gases gases occupy the entire space of the vessel in which they are kept because they donot have a definite volume. The particles of gases are free to move and thus present at each corner of the vessel. Whereas, solids have a definite volume and thus occupy a fixed space. They donot fill the entire vessel. The particles of solids are fixed at their positions and only vibrate at their position.
