Question

C=O bond is polar covalent bond in CO2 but still CO2 is non polar . Why ?

Open in App
Solution

CO2 is non polar molecule but it contains polar C-O bonds. Since the strength of polarity of each C-O bond is same and in opposite direction, so due to symmetry in structure (O=C=O) they cancel each other, giving rise to non polar molecule.
