Calculate the time for which a motor pump of 10 HP and efficiency 80% must be switched on,so as to pump 20000kg of water through a vertical height of 20m?

Given that,

Efficiency of engine = 80% = 0.8

1 HP = 746 Watt

Power of engine which is used = 746*0.8 = 596.8 W

Energy required to lift the water, E = mgh

= 20000*10*20 = 4000000 J

Time taken by pump = E/W = 4000000/596.8 = 6702.41 s = 1.862 hours
