Can a food chain start from a animal?

The food chain can begin with an animal, but again that animal is indirectly depended on plant for its food. Animals are consumers and they are not able to make their own food. So their ultimate source of energy is plant. All food chain are linked to plants, one way or the other. So we can conclude that the food chain always begins with producers.
