Question

can a ionic bond be said to be a polar bond?

Open in App
Solution

Ionic bond is formed by electrostatic force of attraction between oppositely charged ions. Whereas, when in a covalent bond - formed by sharing of electrons - poles develop due to difference in the electronegativity, of the constituent atoms, then, the covalent bond is called a polar bond. Therefore, a covalent bond can be called a polar bond, but an ionic bond, cannot be called a polar bond.
