Question

Chlorine is more electronegative than oxygen but still oxygen forms hydrogen bond but chlorine does not form hydrogen bond??

Open in App
Solution

Inspite of being sufficiently electronegative atom chlorine can not form Hydrogen bonding as that of oxygen becuase of it's ;arge size.
Due to it's large size, polaristaion due to hydrogen atom is large and thus it ends up forming polar bond. Thus Chlorine becomes poor hydrogen acceptor.
