CO2 gas is passed through lime water. Write the chemical equation to show the change.
a) What happens if excess of CO2 is passed through lime water?
b) What is the product formed?
c) How will you represent the reaction?
Lime water is Solution of Ca(OH)2 in water. When CO2 is passed through this solution CaCO3 is formed.
Ca(OH)2(aq) + CO2(g) → CaCO3(s) + H2O(l)
When excess of CO2 is passed calcium bicarbonate is formed:
CaCO3(s) + H2O(l) + CO2(g) → Ca(HCO3)2(aq)
