could someone give me a detailed description of how pH is important to us in our daily life ? and other uses.
pH is the measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. The term pH stands for ‘Potential of Hydrogen’. pH scale is a scale with respect to which the hydrogen ion concentration of different solutions is measured. The pH scale varies from 0 to 14. A pH value from 0 to 6.9 represents acidic solutions, while a pH value from 7.1 to 14 represents basic solutions. A pH value of 7 indicates that a solution is neither acidic nor basic i.e. it is neutral.
If u r talking of its applications there are many but to mention one of these... here it is:-
1. Used to tell the acidity of rain.
2. To check the amount of acid or base in the soil (esp. the one where crops are going to be put- farmland)
3. To check whether solutions are safe for human handling and do not irritate the skin. eg. shampoo, Soap, Detergents, Deodorants etc.
