define combustion reactions and addition reaction along with example ?

Open in App
Solution

  • Combustion Reaction: The reaction which involves the burning of components in presence of oxygen or oxidant is called as combustion. This reaction is highly exothermic and release of heat appears in form of light as a glow or a flame.

Ex: Burning of naphthalene

C10H8 + 12O2 ----> 10CO2 + 4H2O

  • Addition Reaction: The reaction which involvs combination between two reacting molecules to give a single molecule of the product is called addition reaction. The reaction is possible in unsaturated compunds as alkene, alkynes,ketones etc.

Ex: Addition of propelene with HBr forms 2-bromopropane as;

CH3-CH=CH2 + HBr ----> CH3-CH(Br)-CH3
