1. A new radical direction in philosophy which lays emphasis on tradition, time honoured customs is called conservatism.
2. The first move towards conservatism was taken after the defeat of Napoleon in 1815.
3. Monarchy, Church and social hierarchies were given primacy.
4. Conservatism did not envisage a return to pre-revolutionary years, but merely wanted the changes of the Napoleonic Age to strengthen the Monarchy and make for a strong unified central command.
5. With the abolition of serfdom and maintain a modern army, the monarchy would be able to provide leadership more effectively.
