difference between protonema and leaf stage

Protonema is the first stage of life cycle of bryophytes like moss. It is a thread like chain of haploid cells produced directly from the spores. The leafy stage of bryophytes is developed from protonema. It consists of leaf bearing slender axis attached to the ground. It has sex organs.
