Question

Differentiate between electric force and magnetic force acting on a charge

Open in App
Solution

The basic difference between electric force and magnetic force is that

electric force depends upon the magnitude of charge and necessarily on its velocity while on the other hand, the magnetic force depends upon the velocity of the charge and not on its magnitude.

Now electric force is given as

F = qE

while the magnetic force is given as

F = q(v x B)
