Solution

The colour of the skin depends on the amount of melanin in the outer layers of the skin. The darker skin has more amount of the melanin than the light coloured skin. The darker skin has many advantages over fair skin. Melanin acts as a filter to prevent damage to the delicate deeper layers of the skin, by penetration of ultraviolet light. Melanin offers resistance to heat or cold, as well as resistance to the activity of inorganic antimicrobial compounds. Darkly pigmented skin is at substantially lower risk of developing skin cancer than is fair skin.
