Question

what are the principles of sedimation decantation and filtration

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The principle of sedimentation is that heavy particles settle faster in a medium. So the solid component which is insoluble in the mixture settles down due to gravity.

Decantation is the process of separating a liquid from a solid by gently pouring the liquid into another container so as not to disturb the solid of the first container.

Filtration is based upon the principle that only liquid can pass through pores of a filter paper. So solid component of the mixture remains on filter paper and liquid passes through it.
