Question

Explain that why pentanal has higher boiling point than ethoxyethane.

Open in App
Solution

Pentanal is a polar compounddueto presence of C=O, hence is capable of forming intermolecular H bonds which require more energy to break causing an increase in boiling point.
Ethoxy ethane is non polar and hence doesnt form H bonds and hence has lower boiling point.
