Question

A sample of water boils at 103°C at normal temperature and pressure. Is the sample of water pure? Will this water freeze at 0°C?

Solution

No, water is not pure. Water with impurities boils at higher temperature than the standard boiling point and due to impurities, they will not freeze at 0 degree C, they will have lower freezing point than the normal one. Hence impurity in water increases the boiling point and lowers the freezing point of water.
