One body characteristic which can be used to determine the evolution of two species is the structure of forelimbs.

The structure and origin of fore limbs in different organisms starting from frogs, reptiles (lizards), birds and mammals (human) is more or less same but modification has taken place to serve different purposes (swim, hold, jump, crawl, swing etc.). This proves that all these organisms are closely related to each other and are different due to gradual evolution.
