how come iodine is used to stain onion peel ?i thought it was safranin and methylene blue

Solution

Onion peel contains starch. When it is stained with iodine solution iodine reacts with the starch present inside the peels and turns the white starch into blue colour. As a result the peel gets stained with blue colour.
