How did early man become a herder ? Answer in brief.

Early man petted animals by giving food near their places. The first animal to be petted was the wild dog.
Then people protected the calm and timid animals that came near the places where they lived.
These animals like goat, sheep, cow and pig lived in flocks and ate grass.
People kept these animals to protect them from harms by other wild animals.
Thus the early men became herders.
