The hermit answered the three questions by remaining silent on all the occasions whenever the king asked the questions. It was an intelligent strategy adopted by him so as to reveal the futility of the king's questions. The best answer he had to provide was at the end of the story when he says that the most important time is the present and it is the only time that we have to act upon. According to me the most important question was the first question related to the right timing of doing right things. It is essential since there are times when we are waiting for things to happen and hence forget to live in the present.
