Question

How does H2 O 2 behaves as a bleaching action agent ?

Open in App
Solution

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent. Since, the color of compounds are either due to conjugated electron transition or due to metal complex structures , so by adding H2O2 , it oxidizes the compound by providing electrons and releasing a nascent oxygen atom, which satisfies the transition states and decolorizes the compound and so works as a bleach.

Further, it is little acidic and so it cleans the dirt too and used as bleaching agent in water purification.
