Solution

Mesosomes are invagination of plasma membrane observed in certain bacteria. These structures are found to be artefacts form due to treatment of bacteria with certain chemicals. Earlier, it was thought to be a part of normal bacterial cell and are involved in cell division, DNA replication, cell wall formation but such hypothesis has not been proved yet and the mechanism through which such functions are performed is still unknown.
