Question

How does salt prevent spoilage of meat, fish, mangoes etc.?

Open in App
Solution

Microorganisms are responsible for the spoilage of food. Bacteria and other microorganisms cannot grow in highly saline environments. It is just because of simple osmosis. In a highly concentrated salty environment the microbes shrink and die. Salt reduces the growth of microbes and kills them and preserves food.
