Question

how does the pneumatoxic centre alter the respiratory rate ?

Open in App
Solution

The pneumotoxic centre can change the bursting pattern of the dorsal respiratory group(one which controls inspiration) and can switch on or off the inspiration accordingly. On breathing at a faster rate, the pneumotaxic centre signals the dorsal respiratory group to extend its bursts, so that it can properly adjust our breathing, thus controlling the respiratory rate and inspiratory volume
